If the two-minute iTunes preview of ABC’s new sitcom In the Motherhood, which was interestingly made unavailable soon after it’s release, is any indication, ‘Motherhood’s going to be a disaster of a show. It’s too bad, because the premise was promising: “a new comedy [...] which takes a look at the importance of family and friends while trying to juggle motherhood, work and love lives in an overly complicated modern world.”
Unfortunately, I couldn’t even get through the entire preview (I had to bail at the 1:40 mark). The jokes were awful - so bad I’m tempted to use a much more colorful word to describe the awfulness - and the acting was forced. I physically cringed.
There’s not much more to say, except avoid this show if at all possible. And if you do get brave and give it a look, please, have your remote handy for an emergency channel switch. It’s the best way to escape emotional scarring and a loss of faith in sitcoms as a whole.
In the Motherhood premieres tonight (March 26th, 2009) at 8/7c on ABC.
